The Philadelphia Union Front Office Team Honors Juneteenth with a Bike Build Event to Support Chester Youth

On June 19th, the Philadelphia Union front office team marked Juneteenth not just as a day of remembrance, but as a day of action, service, and celebration. Sponsored by WSFS Bank and in partnership with Bikes for Goodness Sake, the team brought together 50 volunteers for a special Bike Build event benefiting the Boys and Girls Club of Chester.

Held in the Union Yards on the Philadelphia Union Campus, the event kicked off with energy and enthusiasm as volunteers spent the first hour assembling the brand-new Batch bicycles. Working together for a shared purpose, volunteers carefully assembled each bike to be gifted to the children from the Boys and Girls Club.

Shortly after the build was completed, the children from the Boys and Girls Club arrived and were welcomed by a heartwarming scene: rows of brightly colored bikes, hand-assembled with care, waiting just for them. The joy was contagious as kids were invited to pick out their bikes, put on their helmets, and take their first spins around the Union campus.

The goal of the event extended beyond gifting bicycles. It was about promoting a healthy, active lifestyle for local youth while also providing a practical form of transportation to support daily needs, such as after-school programs to weekend adventures. The event was a celebration of Juneteenth’s legacy, recognizing freedom and progress while investing in the future of the next generation.

“Juneteenth is a day to honor freedom and uplift our community, and there’s no better way to do that than supporting our local youth,” said Lauren Johns, Senior Coordinator of Community Relations for the Philadelphia Union. “Seeing the smiles on every child’s face light up as they rode around our campus reminded us all why we do this, because small acts of kindness can create a lasting impact.”

The Philadelphia Union, WSFS Bank, and all volunteers demonstrated the power of community partnership, showing that building bikes can also build hope, confidence, and opportunity for youth in Chester.

One bike. One ride. One joyful milestone at a time.
